The governments should give each citizen a basic income so that they have enough money to live on, even if they are unemployed. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Some amount of money such as basic income should be given to each resident of the country by the Government as each resident can fulfil their basic needs even if they are unemployed. I partially agree with this statement, and in this essay, I am going to discuss my views on this.
Governments should always work for the betterment of the citizens of their country. For the survival of any individual basic demands such as food, water, clothes, and healthcare must be fulfilled.
In many developing countries where the population is more many people are living below the poverty line. Many educated people are also not able to find a job because of a lack of opportunities. Firstly, Even after getting a good education, if people stay unemployed Government should either have to develop more job opportunities or should provide them with some basic income so they can survive.
Secondly, If people are employed but due to some disaster or accident if they lose their ability to work or if due to ageing they are not able to work in that situation also Government should provide some basic income.
However, It is a very difficult task for the Government to provide a basic income to a large population. There are pros to the Government providing a basic income to citizens, but there are many cons as well. If the Government provide a basic income to senior citizens or any other needy, they have to increase taxes on the citizens who are working. And if the Government provides basic income to every unemployed citizen, people will become lazy, and they will not work hard even if they can.
So to conclude, I believe that Government should provide some basic income to only senior citizens who are not able to work. For the citizens who are educated and able to work, the Government should develop more job opportunities rather than giving basic income.
