Sample Answer: Describe a House or Apartment You Often Visit

I mostly stay in my village, Ghal Kalan, because I love the open air there. But there is one house I visit very often, and I really like it. It is the house of my Massi Ji (maternal aunt).

Whose home is it? ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ It belongs to my motherโ€™s sister and her husband. They live in Moga City, which is not very far from my village, maybe just 15 or 20 minutes by bus or bike ๐Ÿ๏ธ. My cousin brother, Raman, also lives there. He is of my age, so he is my best friend too.

How often do you visit it? ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ I visit there quite frequently. I would say at least twice a month. Whenever I have a holiday from my college or when my mother wants to do some shopping in the city, we go there. Also, during festivals like Diwali or Lohri, we always visit them to exchange gifts and sweets ๐Ÿฌ. Sometimes, if I have an exam center in Moga, I stay there for the night also.

What does it look like? ๐Ÿก It is a wonderful double-story house. In our village, houses are massive and open, but in the city, houses are a bit smaller. However, their house is very modern. The outside is painted in a light cream color, and there is a black iron gate. Inside, there is a marble floor which shines a lot โœจ. The best part of the house is the kitchen. It is a modular kitchen with red cabinets. My Massi keeps it very clean. There is also a small garden in the front where my Uncle grows flowers and some vegetables like chillies ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ and coriander. On the first floor, there is a big balcony where we sit in the evening and drink tea โ˜•.

How do you feel about it? ๐Ÿ˜Š I feel very relaxed and happy when I go there. It feels like my second home. My Massi cooks delicious food for me, especially Paneer and Prantha. In my own house, my parents are sometimes strict about studying, but at my auntโ€™s house, I feel a bit more free. I can play video games ๐ŸŽฎ with my cousin for hours. The vibe of the house is very positive and welcoming. I never feel like a guest there; I feel like a family member.

โ“ Follow-up Questions and Answers

1. Do people in your country prefer living in a house or an apartment? ๐Ÿข

Answer: In my opinion, most people in India, especially in Punjab, prefer living in an independent house ๐Ÿ . We like to have our own land and open roof. In villages like Ghal Kalan, you will hardly see any apartments. Everyone has big houses with courtyards. However, in big metro cities like Delhi or Mumbai, people have no choice but to live in apartments because there is less space and land is very expensive ๐Ÿ’ฐ. But given a choice, an independent house is always the favorite.

2. What are the advantages of living in an apartment? ๐Ÿ™๏ธ

Answer: I think the biggest advantage is security ๐Ÿ”’. In apartments, there are guards and CCTV cameras, so it is safe. Also, you don’t have to worry about maintenance like fixing the water tank or cleaning the roof, because the society management handles it. It is good for small families or working couples who don’t have time to look after a big house. Also, you get facilities like a gym ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ or park inside the society building itself.

3. Is it common for people in India to move houses often? ๐Ÿšš

Answer: No, it is not very common. In India, people are very emotional about their homes โค๏ธ. Usually, a person builds a house once in a lifetime with their hard-earned money, and they want to live there forever. They want to pass the house to their children. People only move if they get a job transfer to another city or if they are shifting abroad, like going to Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ. Otherwise, we like to stay in one place with our old neighbors.

4. What facilities should a good house have? ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ

Answer: A good house should have proper ventilation and sunlight โ˜€๏ธ. It is very important for health. Secondly, it should have a good water supply and electricity connection. I also think a good kitchen and clean bathrooms ๐Ÿšฟ are very important. Nowadays, having a fast Wi-Fi connection is also a basic need for students and working people. Lastly, if there is a small garden or space for plants ๐ŸŒฟ, it makes the house look beautiful and fresh.

5. Do you think neighbors are important? ๐Ÿค

Answer: Yes, neighbors are very important, sometimes even more than relatives. In villages like mine, neighbors are like family. If there is any emergency ๐Ÿš‘ or happiness, neighbors are the first ones to come and help. We share food and celebrate festivals together. If you have bad neighbors, your life can become very stressful because of fighting and noise. So, having good and helpful neighbors is a big blessing ๐Ÿ™ for a peaceful life.

6. How have houses in your country changed over time? โณ

Answer: There is a big change. In the past, houses were made of mud or simple bricks, and they had very big open courtyards for cattle ๐Ÿ„. They were designed to keep the house cool naturally. But now, modern houses are made of cement, glass, and steel. They are designed for ACs and have false ceilings with LED lights ๐Ÿ’ก. The kitchens have changed from traditional chulhas (clay stoves) to modern gas stoves and chimneys. They look more stylish but are maybe less eco-friendly.

7. Is it better to rent or buy a house? ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Answer: I think it depends on the person’s situation. If you are young and moving cities for jobs, renting is better because you are not stuck in one place. You can change the house easily. But for settling down with a family, buying is always better. When you buy a house, it is your asset ๐Ÿ’Ž. You don’t have to pay rent every month to a landlord. It gives a sense of security and pride that “this is my own roof.”

8. What are the difficulties people face when moving to a new house? ๐Ÿ“ฆ

Answer: Moving is very stressful! ๐Ÿ˜ซ First, you have to pack everything, which takes a lot of time. There is always a fear of breaking things like glass or electronics. Then, finding a truck ๐Ÿš› to shift the luggage is a headache. After reaching the new house, you have to unpack and set everything again. Also, you miss your old friends and neighbors. It takes time to adjust to the new locality and find new shops for daily needs like milk and vegetables ๐Ÿฅฆ.
