Some People Say Cultural Traditions Are Destroyed

Some people say cultural traditions are destroyed when they are used as money-making attractions aimed at tourists. Others say this is the only way to save such traditions. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

As it is rightly said, “Arts and culture are the spinal cord of the country”. Few people claim that monetizing traditional culture to get attention from travellers is the main reason behind destroying the same. While others disagree and support such activities as they feel it is the only method for saving traditions. Both views are discussed in the below composition, and an opinion is given.

On the one hand, Certain demographics of the society think that using the cultural roots for making money is deteriorating the precious values of the same culture. They just believe that such heritage places and towns should not be used as holiday destinations because most of the time travellers are least interested to know the significance of the place. In contrast, they are more fascinated in making videos and taking photos, due to which decorum and legacy are highly disturbed. Additionally, local people who have great respect for their traditional values, especially those inherited from ancestors, feel embarrassed when an outsider breaks any rule just to prove to be adventurous. For example, Rajasthan- the cultural province of India, has learned from years of experience that ignorance of visitors has damaged a lot of their traditional cultures, and they had to put some curbs on it. Thus, advocates of this idea strongly recommend not to use any local culture or place as a source to make money.

On the other hand, some people find it the only way to intact the values of their tradition. They believe that tourists can come to know their culture only by visiting the place in person as reading a book about a particular place does not attract them much. In addition, they cannot just survive their lives by protecting their culture unless they know how to take monetary advantage. In this way, such heritage places are not only creating employment opportunities for locals but also spreading the great culture across the globe by attracting travellers. Hence, certain people support such an idea.

To conclude, in my opinion, though it is the essential thing to protect cultural traditions and local heritages worldwide, I support the idea to take monetary advantage of them as they are adding value to the brains visiting the place and encouraging local people to work effectively as well as efficiently. However, a regulatory body should always help the local community to monitor so that tourists cannot do any wrong things.
