The media provides information o and the happenings across the globe now that Internet access is rampant. It is the duty of journalists to convey accurate information to the masses; however, few of them deviate from their duty and morals guiding them. This essay will discuss why journalists could not be trusted Completely.
First of all, media personnel are driven by selfish motives. They want to be the first to publish and report an incident before others, thereby making it hard to evaluate the source and certainty of Information at their disposal through research; they also want to attract numerous followers to themselves on their social media handles. That is why the Nigerian television authority will always advertise the need to shun fake news.
Secondly, they face a series of threats from superior authorities if they reveal exact facts at their disposal. For instance, a report was made on a local radio station on a collapsed state hospital building, and it was said that the engineer used unskilled labourers whereas the government supplied substandard materials that led to the unfortunate incident, but the radio station was threatened with total lockdown if they say the fact.
Although, through social media and Internet news, newspapers inclusive, Information can be easily accessed and people kept up to date, however, the authenticity of news is questionable also because of bribery and corruption where a news reporter will be given a token to say things in favour of his accomplice thereby concealing the truth from the public.
In conclusion, although journalists keep us informed through various news channels, including the internet but selfish motives, the threat from higher authorities, bribery and corruption influence the accuracy of news they broadcast.
