The Diagram Below gives information about the Hawaiian Island chain in the centre of the Pacific Ocean. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown.
Sample Answer of The Diagram Below Gives Information About the Hawaiian Island Chain
The diagram inside the rectangular box indicates the location of the Hawaii island in the Pacific ocean whereas, the diagram outside the box gives information about the internal structure and formation of the volcano.
There are 8 major islands in the pacific ocean. The first and foremost island in the west is the Niihau island with is very small. Then, the second is the Kauai island which is at least 50m apart from Niihau, in a slightly upward North-East direction. After that, Oahu island is the third Isle proceeding downward in the same direction. Moving further 50m downward, there is a cluster of 4 islands are Molokai, Maui(outer side)and Lanai, Kahoolawe(inner side). At last, there is Hawaii isle, which is the largest island in all the above islands.
In the Pacific Ocean, various Hawaiian island chains lead to the formation of volcanoes. The internal structure of the volcano consists of three layers – the uppermost layer is the pacific ocean, the middle layer is the Pacific plate and the last layer consist of a bed of solid dense rock layer. The process starts with the movement of the Pacific tectonic plates. It generally, shifts in the west direction and is almost 7-9 cm per year.
Due to movement, the magma generates and the eruption process begins 2883 km down the island. Then, it moves upwards in the North direction forming the main vent. This main vent is the hot spot of the volcano where the spume remains static and only manga spume travels through the vent and forms the volcano. Thereupon after several eruptions, the youngest volcano is developed. The oldest volcano on Hawaii island is 80 m year’s old.
