It is believed that people who read for pleasure develop their imagination more and acquire better language skills compared to people who prefer watching television. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Reading and television have been the sources of entertainment for the last few centuries. People who read different books, comics, novels, newspapers, etcetera, are more likely to develop imaginative and communicative skills as compared to those who prefer to watch television upon reading. I partially agree with this statement and will give my point of view in the upcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, reading increases one’s imaginative power, as people read different storybooks and start relating those stories to their own lives in their minds and start creating their own scenes. Furthermore, reading also enhances one’s ability to communicate with others. For instance, a very famous novel, “The Wuthering Heights”, helped a lot of people to develop their vocabulary and speaking skills. Moreover, being a tragic story, it helped people to develop imaginative power in them because they started playing roles in their minds.
On the other hand, television also helps the masses to enhance their communication skills through English shows, movies, etcetera. It also develops listening skills as well as story-making skills. For example, a well known American show ‘Friends’ has proved to be used to learn the English language and found that people started behaving the same with their own friends like the characters of the show did.
In conclusion, it can be said that both reading books, novels, newspapers etcetera, and watching different television shows and movies, help masses to enhance their imagination power and communication skills.
